About This Wine:

Germany’s Mosel winegrowers consider themselves Riesling specialists. The late-maturing, noble white variety thrives in the conditions there as the steep slate slopes above the rivers store the sun's heat during the day and release it again at night.

The Dr. H. Thanisch estate gained its international reputation in the middle of the 19th century under the stewardship of Dr. Hugo Thanisch. Later, at an international auction in 1986, a 1921 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese produced at the estate received an incredible bid of $16,300.

“Feinherb” means “dry-style” — the opposite of sweet Trockenbeerenauslese wines — and the estate’s 2019 vintage shows a little sweetness on the finish, but its high acidity renders it closer to the dry camp. Its nose is classic Mosel with green apple, slate, minerality and a light white peach note. It’s another in a long line of exceptional Mosel Rieslings from Dr. H. Thanisch.
